Halcali brings back a lot of nostalgia for me, as these girls emerged just when I was diving into Japanese music. It’s a shame they didn’t quite succeed when they moved to Sony...
I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure if they were ever really famous based on the Oricon data 🤔. But I suppose the girls were popular enough because Epic - Sony signed them, and besides, many interesting and famous artists wrote songs for them. What there was, though, was quite a bit of anticipation within certain specialized circles when two fifteen-year-old girls with a very peculiar musical style emerged seemingly out of nowhere, but in the end, perhaps the duo didn't quite meet those expectations in the short term.

That’s very interesting - thanks for sharing, Ivan! Yes they seemed to just have a brief stint at the top didn’t they.

Thanks, all of this was new to me. I enjoyed the track by Bitei Matsuki
Thanks, Jeffrey! I’m glad you enjoyed it 👍
The 'Okachimachi...' song sounds rather sad.
Anyway I'm a music writer myself. Let's subscribe to each other's newsletters.
That’s interesting, I’ve always interpreted it as an upbeat track but I suppose there’s a lot of minor notes in there.
Fantastic! Of course, I’ve just subscribed to The Musician :)
